6CSH’s Problem Page

In Miss Shearer’s Fresh Start group we have been reading problem pages. Below is a problem that was sent to us by Embarrassed Kelly in Burnley.

Dear 6CSH

My family is so embarrassing! On Friday nights we go to the disco in the local club. (I’m eleven and my brother is nine.) As soon as the music starts, my dad turns into a windmill! He says he’s dancing but he looks stupid. I can see my friends stare and I think they are sniggering at him. I just pretend I’m not with him. What can I do?

Embarrassed Kelly, Burnley.

What advice would you give?

100 Word Challenge – Graffiti!

Our next hundred word challenge is inspired by a picture taken by Year 6 on their graffiti hunt in the local area.

Write a story, article, argument or anything else of your choice, as long as it is inspired by the picture above.

Your piece of writing must be no longer than 100 words, so pick them carefully! Try to write a complete piece of work – don’t just stop halfway through.

MATHS CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK 04/11 – FIREWORDS

Congratulations to Kelsey, Sommer, Connie, David and Kyle who all earnt housepoints for last week’s challenge!

Here is your challenge for this week (you can also click http://www.transum.org/software/SW/Starter_of_the_day/starter_November5.asp to see a more colourful version!)

FIREWORDS!!!

Firewords are Fireworks which display words in the night sky. You can buy Firewords to make any word but the cost depends on the letters in the word. A costs 1p, B costs 2p etc. Which Firewords will cost exactly £1 ?
You can use this table to help you:

For example: EXCELLENT = 5p + 24p + 3p + 5p + 12p + 12p + 5p + 14p + 20p = £1.00

For every word you make you can earn 5HPs! Leave a comment below with your answers.
