Book Review of Phillip Pullman – Clockwork
By Miss Shearer’s Fresh Start Group
Book title: Clockwork
Author: Phillip Pullman
No. of pages: 92
This story took place in a small village in Germany called Schatzberg. Some parts also took place at the Great Clock of Glockenheim, the White Horse Tavern, the forest, the palace and Dr Kalmenius’ workshop.
The main characters of the story were:
Gretl – a little girl, the daughter of the pub landlord
Dr Kalmenius – evil but genius clockwork maker
Fritz – fictional story teller
Prince Otto – father of Prince Florian with a clockwork heart
Prince Florian – a baby made from clockwork
Karl – an apprentice clockwork maker
Dalton’s highlight of the book was when the little clockwork knight (Sir Ironsoul) kills Karl because he accidentally said the word devil.
Christopher’s favourite part was when Prince Florian’s father Prince Otto returned from their hunting trip with a clockwork heart an a moving arm.
Chase’s favourite part of the book was when Fritz got to an exciting part of his story and at that moment Dr Kalmenius, a character in his story, walked in the door of the pub!
Chelsea’s highlight was when Gretl found Prince Florian trapped in the clock tower and stayed with him to look after him.
We thought that the ending was a little weak because we expected the evil Dr Kalmenius to return!
We would recommend this book as we thought it was fantastic and really enjoyed it. Dalton thinks it is the best book he has ever read, Chase thought it was very interesting but Chelsea thinks that only older children should read it.

GRAFFITI – is it art or vandalism?
Look at the picture above. This is just one example of the graffiti we see on our streets everyday.
But do you think it is art? Or do you think it is vandalism? Should people be allowed to graffiti on the streets or not? What do you think?
