Should schools be closed for snow?

Now we’re into December and the weather is much colder we are asking ourselves “Should schools close for snow?”. In 6CSh English this week we are going to research and to write our own persuasive argument (to put on the blog so stay posted!) on this topic so it would be really great to get some ideas from the public.

So what do you think? Are snow days important for making sure children stay safe or are they just an excuse for a day off?

We would love to hear what you think! You can also vote on the blog post below 🙂

I think schools should not close for snow! As long as schools can cater safely for children to be in class with the correct number of adults to children ! I think it is a time when children / classes together can enjoy the snow with good friends!

  2. Miss Shearer's Mum! says:

I don’t think that schools should be closed because it is fun for children to walk to school in the snow and it doesn’t actually stop them from learning.

  3. Mrs Staley says:

As long as enough staff can get into school then schools should definitely not close when it snows. We also make sure we take children out at break times to have fun in the snow! Lessons could be inspired by the winter weather too.

  4. Mrs Staley says:

I look forward to reading your persuasive arguments!

  5. Miss Jackson says:

No schools should not be closed because of snow.
When I was at school we had to go no matter what the weather! If the buses weren’t running we would walk in the deep snow, sometimes 6 inches deep!!!
Now if it’s a snow day I still have to go to school even if the children don’t, so if we are here the children might as well be. 🙂

Yes because it is a fun time and we should not be stuck in the warm doing work.

  7. jadenjackson says:

When you have a day off school you wouldn’t get much education.

  8. Bridget Cook says:

I think schools should definitely close when there is a lot of snow! Lots of people have to drive or get buses to school and when the roads are bad there are always a lot of delays and it can even be dangerous. Most people arrive late, if at all, and then have to be sent home early so it is never a very productive day anyway. Stay home and play in the snow!!

  9. Chel Yeoman says:

I think that the school should close down because then we get to spend time with our children 😉

  10. Karen Cane says:

I am in complete agreement with Mrs Caldwell and for all the same reasons

I think schools should be closed for snow because the children want to enjoy themselfs and not be stuck inside doing work. We want to be outside or at home spending time with family and friends, kids could be out in the snow having snow ball fights and building snowmen.I as a child would not like to be stuck in the warmth of a class room,I would hate it being stuck inside. If you were a child, how would you feel?:)
